Competition “10 ideas for tomorrow's Africa”

Within the framework of the 50th anniversary of African independence, the Social and Human Sciences Sector of UNESCO (SHS) is launching a “Call for Ideas” for prospective proposals in favour of Africa’s development within the next decade.Among the proposals, which should be submitted before Friday 30 April 2010 at midnight (Paris time), 10 ideas will be selected by an international jury and presented by their author(s) during 10 small-scale conferences to be held at UNESCO Headquarters, in mid-June 2010. Day of the African Child is a day recognized throughout the world on June 16th as an opportunity to reflect on progress toward health, education, equality and protection for all the African children. Although Africa accounts for only 22 percent of births globally, half of the 10 million child deaths annually occur on the continent. 21 - 27 Février 2010, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzanie - Quatrième conférence internationale sur l’adaptation communautaire. La prochaine conférence vise à partager et consolider les dernières avancées sur la planification et la pratique de l’adaptation communautaire dans les différents secteurs et pays d’Afrique. Elle transmettra ces bonnes pratiques à travers des discussions au cours d’un atelier. En fin de compte, elle vise à partager les connaissances et expériences permettant d’aider les personnes les plus vulnérables au changement climatique.

A World Fit for us... children

Thousands of working African children from 13 African countries have published the first results of a global survey by children on the world’s progress on development for children. The children – who work in jobs ranging from domestic workers to shoe polishers – report that whilst there has been some progress in some areas on education and child participation, poverty is still endemic.
