Coalition of African NGOs for Children - CONAFE

In 2000, some fifty African NGOs met in New York during the preparatory session of the UN General Assembly Special Session on Children. They initially established an African Group to increase the contribution of NGOs in the work of the Special Session.

After the Special Session, the Group got together in Bamako and created the CONAFE, an NGO forum marking the starting point for an African initiative for children. The CONAFE regrouped 25 countries in West Africa, East and Indian Ocean. The meeting adopted a resolution to involve NGOs in the creation and monitoring of a "world fit for children", the outcome of UN Special Session.

"The CONAFE is now positioned as a premier African coalition recognized by the African Union and other international organizations," says its president, Moussa Sissoko.
